Kayla Itsines 12 Week BBG Diary Week 4: Turning Point

I’ve been following the community for ages and have completed exercises from the guide before but never finished an entire 12 weeks. Week 4 started off really tough. I was feeling lost, useless and completely lacked motivation to complete a BBG circuit.

I procrastinated and procrastinated until finally on Thursday night I attempted to do my first BBG workout of the week: Week 4 Legs & Cardio. 14 minutes of the feeblest attempt to exercise known to man and I stopped. I was feeling some kind of way. Cue my interview with the marvellous Dr Ally. Her words provided the metaphorical slap in the face I needed to get back in the game. The BBG was a GUIDE only, do what works for you. If you don’t want to jump, don’t jump (if you’ve read my other posts you will know that right now, I really hate jumping during circuits). Remember results take time and that a goal without a plan is just a wish.

One step at a time, change what I need to. Stop looking for results and just keep going. I can totally do this. The next day (Friday) I totally slayed Week 4 Abs & Arms and a day later I dominated the full body circuit…. I EVEN JUMPED. After one particularly brutal set of jump lunges I legitimately forgot who I was for a second. What’s my name? What’s happening? Whahhhh? Oh yeah! Quick, time for lay down push ups. One, two, three, fourrr, fiveee, siiiiiiiiiiiiix.

Far from an ideal week but I finished on a strong note.

After some reflection I realised these past few weeks I have been chasing my tail. I haven’t been working to a plan. I’ve just been trying to get the workouts done without much thought into optimal timing. I have been rushing exercises too, frantically trying to get through each circuit without paying attention to each exercise. What’s my form like?! This week (week 5) I plan to put a little more thought into what I am doing. Regardless of my plyometric triumph at the end of Week 4, I will omit jumping moves from BBG circuits this week and add in one or two HIIT sessions instead. I actually enjoy flouncing about in the context of a HIIT session, there’s just something about doing a burpee during a BBG session that has the capacity to make my soul cry.
